Would it make sense to implement a feature so that CQ messages do not start transmitting in the middle of an interval ?

Today, if one wants to launch a CQ message at the next interval, one has to (1) observe the time, (2) select the appropriate Tx even/1^st and (3) Enable TX

Could this be done within a single function, such as a "Enable TX on next" button or am I overseeing something here ?

And bringing the discussion a bit further, could such a feature be useful when replying to a CQ message ? What is the usefulness of replying to a CQ message at second 11, 12, 13 .. of the following interval  ?

Over the years, various versions of WSJT(-X) have refused to start transmitting if more than some fraction (say 50%) of the Tx interval has already elapsed. This feature is not active in WSJT-X v1.8.0, because in some of its supported modes reception of a small fraction of a transmission is enough to provide a decode.

Yes, we could fine-tune this "late start" parameter so as to optimize it for each mode. For example, an FT8 signal can be copied with clear reception of about half a transmission. We have not considered such fine-tuning very worthwhile.

We hope to see you in the FT8 Dxpedition dry run!
