Over the years, various versions of WSJT(-X) have refused to start
transmitting if more than some fraction (say 50%) of the Tx interval has
already elapsed. This feature is not active in WSJT-X v1.8.0, because
in some of its supported modes reception of a small fraction of a
transmission is enough to provide a decode.
Yes, we could fine-tune this "late start" parameter so as to optimize it
for each mode. For example, an FT8 signal can be copied with clear
reception of about half a transmission. We have not considered such
fine-tuning very worthwhile.
