When using 14.04 I don't have this issue. It's only when using 14.10 that I do. The screenshot was on Xubuntu and indeed I now tried plain Ubuntu and installed mate, it doesn't give me those errors. After installing xfce (on plain Ubuntu), that error and "slightly different look" of the desktop r

There are a couple of "features" I wonder might be addressable. For example, I mistakenly try to open a session to a (linux) server which is not powered up, the (Windows) client simply sits and tries. There's no way to cancel. Clicking on the small round on/off button in the session window
