Building Xalan 1.4 on RH 8.0 may be problemmatic because of gcc 3.2. I suggest you build gcc 3.2.2 and build Xalan and Xerces with recent CVS or nightly CVS tarballs. I don't know why you're getting such weird link dependencies, but something is definitely wrong with your configuration. Dave
