When I try to build shapelib using the help in the INSTALL file I have

OK, I'm closing in on success, but still need some help. I was able
to reinstall X11 & XCode and was able to then rebuild Xastir
successfully. But it's been a slow painful process. My current
stumbling block to getting things as they were is to get libgeotiff

Since I have Xaster up and running on Leopard, I will offer this one
very tidbit of information, I highly recommend only doing an upgrade
install and NOT a clean install. Reading a lot of internet sites
dedicated to Apple, almost everyone experiencing problems did clean
installs, but
Your Leopard install disks should include both the X11 binaries
package and a separate X11 SDK... That said I have not yet tried it;
waiting a month or so to let Leopard get shaken out by others ;)
