Thanks for the help I have been a user of unix (SCO & SUN OS) but
someone else does the installing and fixing of the OS.
I did add the mkiss module and was able to see both ports (Hf and VHf)
packets come in. So its to installing all the files to install xastir.

That's because your system uses the SysV Init style instead of the BSD-style
init setup used by Debian and its various offshoots.

I am using fedora core 6. i also use cygwin on xp.
i previously used core 5, core 3, etc...
i still have a partition that runs core 5
and i update it and xastir on it from time to time.

Another distro that'd be familiar to FC/RH users, but has a more
'production' oriented upgrade cycle (read: not every 6 to 8 months or
so!) would be CentOS. http://centos.org/
Think of it as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) - but with out the paid
support or licensing costs.

Good on ya Jim .. Ones things for sure.. If you ask a stack of Linux users
what Distro they are using its like opening a can of worms.. Good to see a
good spread of Distros in use and a good spread of feelings about em all..
