I have made (and survived) the transition to Ubuntu 8.04-LTS!
Attached is a capture of the latest attempt to get Xastir working on my
laptop.
What other information do the Guru's of Xastir need to figure out this
problem?

What problems are you having? If you start xastir from a terminal any errors
will be printed to the terminal. This could help diagnose the problem.
