I had this problem with no online maps loading and tried Xastir 1.9.4 and now I don't have that problem, however if I load the Canada 250k topo maps I see them downloading but my map screen turns black and has only the map grid showing, other online maps are fine. I have Graphics Magick install

xastir 1.9.2 is available in the Ubuntu repository for (X|K|U)buntu 8.10 However, an attempt to load online maps(tigermap.geo) in this version fails with 'libcurl or wget not present', even though they are indeed on the system. This has been documented in Launchpad as bug #293873. -- Rick G
