Hi Frank,
This issue was already reported in https://github.com/xcat2/xcat-core/issues/5644
And the fix is merged in latest xcat 2.14.6, you can evalute if there any risk for you to upgrade your environment to xcat 2.14.6.
If you have to stay with 2.13.10, it is sorry that xCAT

As you are using 2.14.5, not sure if it is impacted by https://github.com/xcat2/xcat-core/issues/5905
But it will impact node discovery, here is a patch for it (https://github.com/xcat2/xcat-core/issues/5905#issuecomment-448165125)
Or you can just try with 2.14.6, xcat latest GA release.

Hi Sandra,
What's your virtualization hypervisor? and What's your real purpose to discover a VM guest?
xCAT could provide simple VM management capability, there is not required to discover the VM, check below for details:

Do you know how a node would select its hostname normally?

Is there some way I can ‘force’ xCAT to prefer a particular hostname over another for a host?
Please let me know if you need any more info!
Thanks,
Sandra

Fro most of the command, xCAT expect you run command from management node, as xcatd will decide if the request will be forwarded to service node.
So if your MN could handle dhcp lease entry successfully, there is okay.
Base on that I am not sure your exact problem? Do you hit provision error, or
Hi Thomas,
I don't think 'noderes.installnic' could meet your expectation: PXE from eth0, but set IP to eth2 after provisioning (DHCP or static).
I'm still curious about your new discovering, looks like it is discovered by eth0 with other method, instead of eth2 with switch based disco
Thanks Thomas,
The information is very clear, but it is just a bit different with xCAT typical assumption.
But it should be handled when discovering, xCAT will assign the same IP to eth0 and eth2 during the auto-discovery.
Ertao, could you help to give more information about that?
And T
Hi Thomas,
Just a bit confusing about your context. So you have a node with 2 NICs are enabled PXE boot in BIOS, and both NICs are connected in the same network with MN's provision NIC?
If this is your case? why we have the two NIC in the same LAN, do you want a bonding after provision
Not sure if we can leverage xcat docker container (which run centos7 as base image) to do it. (https://github.com/xcat2/xcat-docker)
If you don't use SLES diskless (we are still thinking about how to building image for cross-distro, maybe a corresponding docker image on that distro ), the current d
xCAT team are considering not to generate the default export entries for /tftproot and /install, but you can follow up the documents to created it per your demand. (For example, some cases (service node, statelite) requires NFS and you want to use xcat MN as its NFS server )
This will introduce

I don't understand your question.

xCAT only officially supports the package based installation for CUDA, would we know anything make you choose runfile to install NVIDIA driver?

What's logs in `/var/log/xcat/cluster.log` after you run bmcdiscover
And do you have changed the BMC default user/password on those servers?
BTW: what's you server model? if it is x86_64 ipmi based server, could you run
```
/opt/xcat/bin/ipmitool-xcat -vv -I lanplus $bmcusername $bmcpassword
ured to use the 10.40.0.0 management/provisioning network).
Many thanks,
Sandra
So you have a public DHCP server which l
Hi Sandra,
Is the mgt0 and mgt0-pub pointing to the same IP address, or in the same subnet? And what's your `mgt01` definition, you can use `lsdef mgt01` to get the information and hide the sensitive attributes.
And Yuan, do you have more suggestions?
Hi Brian,
You could define those external hosts into table `hosts` directly, instead of creating an node definition,
check `man hosts` for more details.
Hi Stuart,
Is it possible for you to configure the IP on compute nodes as static? you can do it by adding `confignetwork -s` into postscripts. For details, please check https://xcat-docs.readthedocs.io/en/stable/guides/admin-guides/manage_clusters/common/deployment/network/cfg_network_etherne
Hi Fabio,
Thanks for the information, and Did you get the difference on /install/autoinst/node01 between 2.13.11 and 2.14?
Hi Carmelo,
Thanks to give us the information, but pointed out by Christian, we'd like to know more about your scenario there.
Are those nodes in the same subnet? and why we want the different d
In most of cluster, the compute nodes do not have direct networking to access the external or corporate NTP servers.
Then it would like the head node to act as a broker, it means MN get time from external ntp server and all CNs sync time from MN.
To achieve this , You need to set `site.extntpserver
'localdisk' feature is also supported for 'stateless' node in case there are some special requirements to leverage the local disk.
You could check your rootfs directory for your stateless osimage, you can see './etc/rc.d/init.d/localdisk' is there (it is installed from `rc.localdisk`). And it wil
