Success!! - Thanks very much.
I've used the sources from xml-xerces_20020117052128.tar.gz - now all supposedly good
files pass and all supposedly bad files report expected errors.
Should any new problems arise I'll keep you posted.

I'm actually using Xerces C++, but when trying to isolate a problem I use combinations
of Xerces Java, the Schema Quality Checker, XMLSpy, and XML-Authority to try to
arrive at some sort of consensus.
Actually I don't think we are that far away.
