Converting XML Schemas

Hello Does anyone know of any tools or documents that explain what it takes to upgrade an XML Schema specified in version 1.0(ie., 1999) to XML Schema 1.1, or convert the other way possibly loosing some richness. (I would like to know how two systems can interoperate if they are designed to work
