not appearance of chapter number is not bidi issue. All other issues that you mentioned can easily be fixed but it requires that you spend a considerable amount of time to fix them and unfortunately at the moment I can not spend that much time on this. -- Best wishes, Vafa Khalighi

Hi Gareth the bidipoem package is indeed intended for typesetting modern and traditional Persian poems and may not be suitable for typesetting poems in other scripts. I think that I have not understood your problem correctly and I do not know how I should typeset Syriac with xetex.fontspec
