I have an Asus M3N with an intel 855GM graphic chipset. I can't get it
to work at 1400x1050 using the standart driver, but when i try the
driver from Intel i get an error that it isn't meant to work with my

I installed on my Fedora Core 1 a XFree86 with version
4.4. Everything went fine. After the reboot I get the
normal Fedora Core 1 login screen. But this time with
an window in the bottom with text "Console log for
localhost".
I login and I get this message window:

The version of XFree86 that you are using doesn't recognize your
graphics card. That's why you end up with the vesa driver. The vesa
driver is unaccelerated and that may be what you are seeing

I still have the problem on making the xserver run at 1024x768 with
thousands of colors. At 1024x768 it only runs at 256 colors, when I try to
select thousands of colors and restart the xserver, the display becames just
a small screen 600x480 in the middle of the monitor.

over a Java virtual machine (jvm). My linux is a Red Hat 9.0 running on a

You may have the same problem with your Asus, I don't know if they use
the old buggy BIOS or the 'new' release from Intel.
How can i veify that? What can do if it is the buggy one? Change the god
