I initially installed my system with 2.4.21 kernel from Redhat ES 3.1. I then rebuilt the kernel using the 2.4.26 source from kernel.org. After I do this and I reboot using the rebuilt kernel image I get a message indicating "I cannot start the X server. It is likely that it is not set up correctl
ldconfig made everthing better. That is a new one to me. I will researche it and see
what it did to straighten things out.

logs don't bother me as much as the fact that I keep getting coredumps that seem GUI related; but the GUI doesn't die. Using KDE or Gnome doesn't change the problem.
