resolution is 1024x768 while if I boot on the external Dell P1110 I can
arrive at 1600x1200. I'd like to boot on the LCD and sometimes switch to
the external CRT without the need to exit/restart XFree86/GNOME.

doesn't work, as expected because in the 'i810' section on XFree86 site
there's no "Rotate" option.

/etc/apt/sources.list, then you need to type as root:
- - apt-get update

Well, I never tried the 'fbdev' driver on X. I use the general VESA fb
but for the console. So, it should be useuful to give it a try, just to
know if the switching problem is at BIOS level (as I think).

As I wrote in my previous post, yes, I use everyday an external SONY
Trinitor Dell P1110 capable of 1600x1200 (I don't have the frequencies
here at home, but I can have
ituation if I use the internal LCD (as from the LCD
log I attached). On the other hand, from the CRT log I've exactly the
contrary (active Pipe A). As I wrote above, you should have the CRT
active on a pipe to use it on X.
