Hello. The thing is that I have an IBM T30 laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 display adapter. I've set up Linux on it (kernel 2.4.20) and KDE 3.0.4 running on top of XFree86 v. 4.2.1. I've been able to set it up correctly on the internal LCD screen, that works fine. But getting the image to display properly on an external screen is proving to be quite difficult no matter if I'm trying to set up a dual head configuration or just simply trying to display the same image on the external display as is being displayed on the LCD. What I'd very much like is of course to get multiple heads working to enlarge my desktop area. I tried to accomplish that but unfortunately it hasn't worked yet (I think I've pretty much exhausted everything I can find on the Internet and all I can think of so if you know of any trick or way of getting it to work I'd very much appreciate that). When I wasn't able to get multiple heads working I tried to get the same image to display on the external screen as was being displayed on the LCD of my laptop. That doesn't work very well either. The problem descriptions are as follow: 1) If I try to set up a dual head configuration (like the one displayed in my "Heima" configuration in the XF86Config-4 file below) then the X window system simply crashes. Below my config file you can see the log file for trying to run "startx -- -layout Heima". 2) If I run the default configuration (either run "startx -- -layout Standalone" or simply "startx") the LCD display works beutifully but the external display behaves strange... first of all it only displays at refresh rates around 50Hz or so... but more importantly, the right side of the screen is very "crooked". I've tried this with both of the screens that are mentioned in my XF86Config file (a Hitachi CM620ET and the Compaq P1220) and both of them behave strangely in a different way. The Hitachi shows a thin white line at the right side and the image is a bit distorted there while the Compaq showed horizontal green bars on the right side of the image around 2 inches wide or so. 2b) In order to try to fix that problem I uncommented the Option "CrtScreen" line in my XF86Config-4 file. That resulted in my LCD displaying the image in a ridiculous resolution (probably something like 640x480) so I quickly commented that option back out. As I said, I'd very much like to get dual head configuration up and running but at least I'd like to have a decent resolution and refresh rate on the external screen even though it only displays the same image as the LCD. If anybody can help me out here I'd be most grateful. I do know that there is nothing wrong with the adapter because I have WinXP set up on the computer and that works just fine with dual head and everything.
