In most mail clients you find an advanced setting "leave mail on server".
I know in outlook it is.
normal pop3 protocol looks like this : (u can try this with a telnet session
to pop3.server.host.com port 110.)

telnet o pop3.server.host.com 110
USER [EMAIL PROTECTED]
PASS your_password
LIST

Without knowing your details it's hard to give you a 'working' config but
all the files which have to be configed are:
\pop3links.tab -> info on external pop3 mailbox
\domains.tab-> info about localy treated domains
\mailusers.tab -> info on local user
