Furthermore a scripter could implement bandwidth throttling by counting incoming SMTP
connections during a certain timeframe.
Exceeding connections could get a 'try again later' result code. Such hooks would make
things flexible to the max.

It's not only bandwidth saving. It's mainly the ability to react with =

SMTP responses generated by a script on protocol level. It would also be =

to add customized SMTP command processing etc ...

OK .. this is true for checking the data part. Under the aspect of =
decoding
mime mails, it isn't a trivial thing at all.
But Hooks for the envelope lines and the start of data would be=20
comparable easy to implement and very valuable for future script =
extensions.
