I think you are taking this <error> to seriously. Remember that this is an "unusual" situation, telnet is not a mua or an mta, so error codes are only interpreted by your eyes, and not for what they are there, the software. Ok, in this case it could have a text a bit more clear for you to read, but that's all. On the other hand the rfc says that the sender must properly encode the envelope <>, but it doesn't say the destination should reject if not properly encoded. It's just a point of view, not a violation.

Or ask for a new RFC to change 'mail from' and 'rcpt to' syntaxes or to accept both ... And why 'MAIL FROM' but not 'COMES FROM' ? ... or just 'IN' and 'OUT' ? If we don't have to adhere to rfc's (equivalent to laws for 'humans' = .....), then I will make a new xmail release that speak FRENCH, so no more = 'MAIL FROM' but 'EMETTEUR', no 'RCPT TO' but, 'DESTINATAIRE', no more 'HELO' = but 'COMMENT ALLEZ VOUS ?', AND finally, no more 'INTERNET' at all !!!! = (but 'INTER-RESEAUX' or 'FRENCH-CONNEXION' ;-)) ), ... ...... > -----Message d'origine----- > De : Rob Arends [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Envoy=E9 : lundi 29 novembre 2004 06:05 > =C0 : [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Objet : [xmail] Re: R: Re: smtp error >=20 >=20 > Well what the hell do we need RFCs for then? >=20 > Coders must adhere to the RFCs or risk being incompatible. > Just because a lot of MTAs ignore the <syntax> does not make it = right. >=20 > Rob: -) >=20 > _________________________________________________ > Note To Self: Remember to put something witty here later... > =20 >=20 > > -----Original Message----- > > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dario > > Sent: Monday, 29 November 2004 1:56 AM > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Subject: [xmail] R: Re: smtp error > >=20 > > Maybe a better solution would be "just don't care". > > Severs like sendmail and qmail will not stop when a MAIL FROM=20 > > cmd has this <syntax> mistake, they will just accept the message. > >=20 > > Dario=20 > >=20 - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe xmail" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line "help" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe xmail" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line "help" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
