Well it was a simple ten line addition to the code:

But no one bothered to apply it.
You don't want it but that doesn't mean no one wants it, it is easy to apply 
but it is also easy to work round.
I kind of resent the fact that despite the patch being completely 
un-controversial you should ignore it for three years and then just choose to 
reject it like this. It doesn't look good.
