Anyhow, I just tried 1.4.2 and this works. I still have some warnings
when I start which I'm not sure about, but otherwise all seems okay.
This is what I see:
$ ssh macg4 -l root
~ # Xfbdev -ac

I have no idea about your problem, but for what it's worth have you
considered just using Xorg instead of kdrive?

I'm cross compiling xorg-server-1.4 for a powerpc 7400 (MAC G4) and
Xfbdev starts and the mouse works (eventually), but I get nothin
