X ports?

Hi, Does the X protocol use specific IP ports? We have been running X in a trusted network situation but now also need to use X in a WAN / VPN situation. If there are special ports for X, I'll need to have the firewall guys open them. Thanks for your help. Rich Busse | Openview/SiteScope

the firewall guys open them. Having X ports open to the wild exterior is not recommended. The security isn't up to todays standards. You'd better try ssh X proxy, with ssh -Y. That being said, IIRC X11 ports start at 6000 (add the display number). Xav
