It's not ounly in Gnome, but also both KDE, Xfce4, so the name of the topic is
wrong.
As I wrote in deleted duplication (47573) last stable version of driver works
correctly.

I am using a ATI RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series] - so the cause must be
something else and it does happen with stock oneiric version and edgers

Actually I can reproduce this with Precise vanilla right now, only with Precise
+ edgers.
