It actually wouldn't be too hard to do mouse acceleration
outside of X. Just build it into gpm, and have X read fake
pre-accelerated mouse data out of gpm's repeater fifo.
Putting it directly into the mouse driver isn't that hard
either. However, it will be a bit harder to add run-time
adjustment

I have a Dell PC with an "NVidia Riva Ultra 64 rev 21" in it. I want it to offer
multiple visuals so I can run old apps that only support 8-bit PseudoColor and
still let other apps that can handle more colors have them.
Everything I've found on Xfree86.org and elsewhere says it ain't possible -

hi all,
4.1.0 when used with a -configure opt would give me lots of output,
including a nice Clock range: line. 4.2.0 doesn't do this. is there
any way to get it back, or somehow otherwise find out the clock ranges?
thanks!

If you want to work in this area, go ahead. I'm sure something

The current method of multiplying the mouse's velocity by a constant
whenever the motion exceeds a certain threshold isn't as nice and usable

I didn't think cross compiling worked. For instance, some
of the things in the tree need to get build for PC (Imake and
makedepend) but most of the binaries need to get built for PPC.
I didn't think all that stuff was sorted out.
