Dear Experts,
Since the performance of the siliconmotion driver in
XFree86 4.1.0
is so poor (e.g. for playing videos), I've installed
the 4.1.99.5
version (with v1.3.1 siliconmotion driver) from CVS.
The new server seems to work fine, except that xvinfo
now yields:

X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
 no adaptors present

while xdpyinfo confirms that the XVideo extension is
present.

The server log files contains no erros. However,
compiling with
SMI_DEBUG I found that SMI_SetupVideo() exits
prematurely because
xf86I2CWriteVec(&(smiPortPtr->I2CDev) (line 896 of
smi_video.c)
returns 0.

This is on a new, but low budget, laptop running
redhat 7.2.
XVideo works fine (if slow) with redhat's
XFree86-4.1.0 server.

lspci describes the my card as:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Motion,
Inc. SM720 Lynx3DM (rev b1) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
        Subsystem: Silicon Motion, Inc. SM720 Lynx3DM
        Flags: 66Mhz, medium devsel, IRQ 9
        Memory at f4000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
[size=64M]
        Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 1
        Capabilities: [50] AGP version 2.0

Thanks for your time,
Ivo
