I've noticed the following problem across several distros and with several
minor versions of AbiWord.

As far as I can tell, *only* AbiWord is affected, no other GTK apps exhibit
the behaviour. When using AbiWord with either the default X 4.2.0
trident_drv OR the updated driver provided by Alan Hourihane, it's as if the
fonts on screen are being represented slightly larger (on the page) than
AbiWord "sees" them internally -- the result of this is that when typing, the
text runs off the right side of the page (quite some distance) at which point
it becomes invisible, but is sometimes visible in brief flashes while typing.
Eventually, the text will wrap (WELL beyond the "apparent" right margin) and
continue to the next line which will do the same thing. This happens with
pretty much any font (including MS fonts) that I throw at it. I originally
thought it was merely a problem with AbiWord being confused about the point
size of the fonts (ALL fonts, on at least 4 Linux distros) ... but at this
point I've no clue what it could be.

No other program has exhibited this behaviour, and searching Abi's Bugzilla
and lists has turned up nothing.

I can switch to the generic vesa driver and the behaviour goes away, but then
all fonts look a bit ... off. Nothing major, but not as clear/attractive as
they seem to be while using the trident_drv. Also, on the latest Red Hat
beta (null), the behaviour is apparent using both the vesa driver AND the
trident_drv.

It's not even that I use AbiWord all that much, or desperately need it, but I
have tried everything I can think of to sort this out and am at a loss. Any
ideas?

Thanks,
Rob
