I am trying to install Linux Peanut on a Packard Bell 205CD Legend, with a
Firehawk mother board, an Intel 486 DX 2, 66 Mhz, 64 MB of RAM, Phoenix Bios
4.07.5 and embedded Cirrus Logic CL-DG5428, 1 MB of video memory and a
Packard Bell monitor 1402S. The question is... When I try to install the
video server ( I am using XFree86 version 4.2 ) it ask for the Chip which is
listed and the monitor is not. I used the custom side and used the monitor
book, adjusting the Horizontal and Vertical according to monitor specs.
Once is set it ask to probe and the screen goes blank and nothing happens.
Afterwards it said that the video card has to be configured ????? But it
sends me back to the monitor settings.... and start a vicious circle. I
tried several settings and nothing works. Except one... I use unlisted
card and unknown monitor and I get half of screen ???? The problem it looks
odd. I get the full screen when the system is getting install, like an old
DOS program with colors and progression bars and all the goodies that is
supposed to display during installation, but, XWindows does not want to
show, all other drivers will configure, like sound card and modem, but not
video. This is my first time installing Linux of any flavor.
Please help !!!
