Using 16.04. If I have for example a .png file on my desktop the icon
will be a thumbnail of the actual image. What I want is to have just a
generic icon that's the same for all image files. So I know from looking
at it it's an image, but I do not want a thumbnail of that particular

This bug has been present for nearly a decade -- it has almost become a
feature instead. I remember seeing it mentioned reported under numerous
flavours of Linux over the years, as it happened to me
My problem was resolved on this forum, but not by adding to the panel. I had to
install something (apt-get . . . maybe gnome-something?) I can't recall. I can
look it up if you want.
