I posted sometime ago about loosing the ability to make SFTP connections using
Filezilla, running Xubuntu 14.04.
Installation of Xubuntu 16.04 resolved the issue. One wise list user suggested
that I needed to upgrade to a later version of Filezilla to overcome a change

I got that the other day. Instead of update, do upgrade instead and let it
a do what it can. That resolved it for me. Then do the update.

I tried sudo apt upgrade. It loaded 388k of fiels, but when I ran the
software updater, I got the same error message:
"failed to download repository information"
