have searched online and found that they may be stored in
~/.config/xfce4, however, even after restoring that whole directory from
backup I cannot get my lost panels back. I have since learned how to use

Sounds like a connection issue between the computer and the monitor. Try
unplugging the cables from the monitor and the computer and reconnecting them.

I got it resolved. I guess, maybe gnome-calculator was NOT
installed prior to 16.04, so I uninstalled it and install
galculator instead. I'm happy again. Thanks all!!

As long as the version of Windows installed in the virtualbox supports the
