Actually I saw this behavior for the first time today! I didn't think much
of it, but if more people are having the same problem it could indeed be
something.
I'll pay attention on my next login to see if I can reproduce it.

I use Xubuntu on my desktop but have not yet upgraded to 16.04.1
LTS. However, on my laptop I run Lubuntu and just recently
upgraded to 16.04.1 LTS and noticed a similar behavior. But in my
case the actual login dialog box turns black a second or so after
booting.

Xubuntu 16.04.01
"Lost" my "own" wallpaper but am happy with default one.
Have to wait before starting to type my password.

I have that issue too. It's a known bug but not likely to be considered
critical and won't get fixed in any great hurry.

It's weird, I have another pc that I installed Xubuntu 16.04 on via the
network minimal install and it does not have the problem. The pc I have
this problem with I installed via the official iso.

I suspect you may be right. I see the same iissue with a live usb on the pc
that has the bug. Tried same live usb on my older pc and there was no
issue.

The pc I am having the problem with ahs Intel graphics too. The pc I don't
have the problem with has Nvidia.
