House panel checks BC quota

Eluru, July 4: The State Legislative Committee on Backward Classes
expre-ssed displeasure over the implementation of BC reservation in
the roster system to benefit students as well as employees in
educational institutions in West Goda-vari district.

The committee led by its chairman Basavaraju Saraiah reviewed the
implementation of BC reservation in educational institutions here on
Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Saraiah said that the
government recognised educational institutions must implement
reservations as per norms and wondered how some institutions declared
that no seats allotted to students from BC communities were vacant.

Critical at the reports of several educational institutions claiming
that no backlog posts were vacant with them, the chairman called for a
comprehensive report on BC reservations from all educational
institutions in the district. He asked for details pertaining to
filling up of seats as per the norms, especially in degree,
postgraduate and professional colleges.

Mr Saraiah called upon officials from various departments to make
efforts for implementation of various welfare schemes introduced for
the benefit of BCs. Noticing that some officials were absent in the
review, the chairman asked reasons for this.

Penugonda MLA Pithani Satyanarayana expressed surprise after learning
that no BC post was lying vacant in several educational institutions
and called for action against these institutions if they tried to
mislead the committee. Meanwhile, State BC Employees Welfare
Association secretary M.V.V.S.N. Murthy submitted a representation to
the committee chairman.

Mr Murthy asked for implementation of BC reservation for employees to
affect promotions, bringing out a legislation on BC Atrocities
(Prevention) Act, appointment of women wardens at BC welfare girls'
hostels and allocation of seats to BCs based on sub-quota like A,B,C
and D, similar to the practice being followed in Tamil Nadu.
