Andhra Pradesh - Hyderabad Massive rally of BCs planned Special Correspondent Setting agenda: Maharashtra Minister and president of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Samatha Parishad Chaggan Bhujbal with BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah in Hyderabad on Sunday. - HYDERABAD: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Maharashtra Minister for Public Works Department Chhagan Bhujbal has said that a major rally of Backward Classes would be held here in four months under the aegis of All-India Mahatma Jyothi Rao Phule Samatha Parishad of which he is the president. The rally would be organised as part of efforts of the parishad to spread its tentacles all over the country, Mr. Bhujbal told a State-level convention of BC Welfare Association here on Sunday. R. Krishnaiah would be president of the parishad's State unit and V. Krishna Mohan Rao general secretary. The Minister called for unity among BCs who were a divided lot because they belonged to different sub-castes. They would corner political power if they were united, he said and prophesied the emergence of a leader from BCs as Chief Minister after the 2009 elections. R. Krishnaiah, president of Andhra Pradesh BC Welfare Association, said the mainstream parties neglected BCs as they protected the interests of upper castes. The Congress was identified with Reddys and TDP with Kammas. Later, at a press conference, Mr. Bhujbal demanded that BC reservations at the Central level should be categorised on the lines of the one in Andhra Pradesh. He sought reservation for the BCs in all central recruiting agencies.
