Raje govt succumbed to Meena pressure: Pro-Gujar group 7 Jun, 2007 l 1830 hrs ISTlPTI JAIPUR: Accusing the Rajasthan government of succumbing to pressure from the Meena community in settling the quota issue, a pro-Gujjar group on Thursday said the administration is acting tough on them but has "spared" those involved in the killing of some Gujjars during the violent protests. "BJP government is registering criminal cases against Gujjars and arresting them too but has spared those indulged in the killing of four Gujjars in Lalsot," Sayar Dhabhai, president of Rajasthan Dev Sena Dal, told reporters. He said at least 50 Gujjars are missing from villages in Lalsot. "Why are cases registered against Gujjar protestors and not against the Meenas, who openly brandished swords and arms in Dausa and Karauli districts," said Dhabhai, who conceptualised the Gujjars demand for elevation from OBCs to STs during the previous Ashok Gehlot government. "The government is also mum on the ruling Meena ministers who flared up sentiments prompting caste clashes," he alleged. "The state government should register cases against the protestors of Meena community," he said, adding his organisation would lodge FIRs on certain cases against Meena protestors. Expressing satisfaction over the government-Gujjars pact, he said Dev Sena would wait for three months for favourable recommendations by the three-member committee headed by a retired justice of the high court. "If required, we will plan an agitation," he said, adding the Gujjar mahapanchayat will be held at Pushkar shortly. The state police has registered about 200 cases including one each against Rajasthan Gujjar Sangarsh Samiti president Col. Kirori Singh Bainsla and convenor Roop Singh. The police has also arrested 209 protestors so far.
