LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on Tuesday rejected the
UP Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Commission (Amendment) Bill
besides referring three other bills to a select committee of the
house.

The Samajwadi Party, with 38 members in the 100-member Upper House,
questioned the need for tabling these bills and pressed for a lobby
division. The bill was rejected by a voice vote.

The SP members also succeeded in getting three other bills -- UP
Higher Education Services Commission (Amendment) Bill, UP Agriculture
Production Market (Amendment) Bill and Dr Bhim Rao Samajik Parivartan
Sthal (Conservation and Upkeep) Bill -- referred to a select committee
of the House alleging that these were tabled to oblige BSP workers.

BSP has 14 members in the house.
