Is there a reason you cant use Python 1.5.2 or 2.0?
(python 1.6 has many known bugs)

I changed the z2.py so that Zope runs on port 4081 also I added the -D
option to the start script.
When I access the Webserver at Port 4081 I got the welcome message :)
