"Visual Basic.NET is not your grandfather's VB. Put
VB.NET together with SQL Server and you have a jazzy
application duo to create database solutions with all the
slickness of web integration and XML web services
interoperability. Oh, and it's incredibly easy too!" So says
Rick Dobson, author, teacher, and VB guru.
Agree? Disagree? Confused? This week, we are presenting
an opportunity to interact with Rick himself. Learn how to
combine VB.NET & SQL Server 2000 in a free webcast on
Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 1:00 PM EDT (17:00 GMT). This
webcast will include a live slide presentation by Rick,
followed by a real-time question and answer session with
members of the audience. Take advantage of this chance to
learn from the Chief Technology Officer at CAB, Inc. and the
author of the upcoming "Programming Microsoft SQL Server
2000 with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET."
Pre-register for the event here.
What's your take on all the .NET hype anyway? Have you
implemented it already? Still planning to do it, or just
researching it? Or do you think that .NET is a dead end and
J2EE is the best way to go for your enterprise? Take our
poll and let me know
what you think. As always, I appreciate your feedback!
Cheers,
Tim

Methods for change data capture

| Tip of the Week: |
| The key to data independence is data
normalization, and normalized data schemas are the most
performance demanding. To address the issue of performance
in many environments, data independence was abandoned and
denormalized schemas were created to address particular
analytical needs. Although this addressed short-term
decision support needs, it compromised adaptability and the
enterprise view. Data independence, adaptability and
cross-enterprise functionality go hand in hand, and the
normalized data schema is critical to reaching these
objectives. NCR's Tom Russell & Rob Armstrong explain why. |
