Last month, I mentioned that SearchDatabase.com had launched a new interactive salary survey and I invited you to answer a few questions to see how you measure up to your peers in the database industry. Well, more than 1,800 of you have! Here are some highlights of the results so far:

The first thing you're all wondering is of course: who makes the most money? Naturally, CIOs and VPs hold the top spot, with an average of $130,000/year (US dollars) in salary and overall compensation. You database administrators aren't doing too bad either--you average $75,000, with somebody out there making $280,000! Lots more data is available: You can compare how your salary stacks up by using one of our canned reports that sort by top 10 paying jobs or by title. You can also compare your salary to others in your industry and to IT professionals in general.

What does it take to make the top 10 list? Not surprisingly, education, experience, location, industry, company size and several other factors all affect earning potential. You can view salary information based on these all these factors by clicking over to our results page.

A very cool feature of this survey is that you can even create your own custom reports based on any or all of these criteria. For example, I did my own investigating and found that here in New England USA, a female DBA with a bachelor's degree makes an average of $15,000 less than an equally educated male DBA! Have I uncovered gender discrimination, or just a small sample size? In this case, it might be the latter. For this reason, I encourage anyone who hasn't yet taken the survey to do so. It's a quick and easy; click here to take the survey.

Enjoy the week, Sara
