Data center professionals, take note: SearchDatabase.com has two new resources to help you learn about new technologies, give you perspective on the industry, and thus do your job better.

First, our Data Center Futures newsletter focuses on the future of the enterprise data center, including mainframe technology, emerging technologies and new management strategies. Our writers present, in a fun and futuristic light, what industry analysts, IT managers and experts see coming in the next five years in general and the next year or two in particular. Recent articles have included: weighing centralized and distributed data centers, Linux and server consolidation, multi-platform integration and more.

Second, our exciting new Data Center Futures conference will debut June 4-6 in Chicago (USA). It is one of the few independent, vendor-neutral, fluff-free conferences out there -- and it's free. That's not a typo! If you are a qualified data center decision-maker, there is absolutely no charge. The sessions will provide practical, real-world advice on how to make the smartest purchasing decisions, implement the top data center solutions, and avoid the costly pitfalls that our experts have uncovered. Topics include how to select the platform specific to your requirements, the top ten staffing issues for your data center, how to buy only what you require, how to maintain and ensure business continuity, bricks and blades in the data center, and much more. The speakers are CEOs from leading companies as well as the industry's top independent experts.

If you have any important problems or questions that we're not covering in the newsletter or conference, let me know at [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Help us help you! Till next week, Tim

This Week: In the forums
>> Get religion: Primary keys
Member "Patrick" is having a "religious" discussion about defining a primary key on a table: should one use a column that contains a real-world value or should it be a made-up value? Go to our "DBA Water Cooler" to offer your two cents.
>> ORA-08103 error
Member "shanky" is getting an "object no longer exists" error when trying to get results from an Oracle stored procedure through a stateless session bean. Go to our "Oracle Tech Forum" if you can help.

Tip of the Week:
An audit trail is often required to know who created a record and who updated it. A "SELECT NVL(user, SYS.login_user) FROM DUAL" query shows the database login account. The function below is helpful when the database login is not the same as the network/OS login, which may occur in applications that make JDBC/ODBC calls to an Oracle database. This function returns the network/OS login account username.
