 From the Editor:

by Tim DiChiara, Senior Site Editor

I'm happy to announce the debut of the SearchDatabase.com Member Editorial series.

What bugs you about the DBMS industry? The increasing workload forced onto DBAs? Unrealistic development deadlines? The sorry state of vendor support? Finding qualified staff for your data center? We'll publish opinion piece per month in this space, as well as posting it to the DBA Water Cooler forum as well. As an incentive, we'll send a new DBMS-related book to each featured writer.

The first installment is by consultant and Sybase guru Mich Talebzadeh, called "Oracle's cabaret act and the confused state of our industry." "The database buyer," Mich writes, "has to make the choice of a mission-critical software platform while sifting through a mass of rapidly-evolving benchmark results, conflicting analyst reviews and, as always, uniformly positive customer testimonials....The customer feels a lot of heat but sees little light from the top three RDBMS vendors." Agree? Disagree? Feel free to respond to Mich's article in the forum.

If you'd like to submit your own column, here are a few ground rules:

  • Keep it civil: No Fabian Pascal-style personal attacks, please
  • Keep it short: Under 600 words
  • Keep it related to the data management business

Send your screed to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Until next time, Tim
