In the latest installment of our popular "DBA Profiles" series, the president of the Professional Association of SQL Server users (PASS) reveals a secret from his past.
He used to be an Oracle DBA and even wrote a book about Oracle tools. I can hear your collective gasps from here.
Kevin Kline does not gloat, however. He sounds a conciliatory note in the ongoing database wars, saying that both Oracle and Microsoft databases have strengths in specific environments. For example, Oracle has a more robust native language for stored procedures, yet SQL Server has a much more effective set of tools. With SQL Server, it's easier and faster to get up and running, while Oracle is a
smart choice for applications that rely on stored procedures, Kline says.
"For DBAs in a heterogeneous world, it's not too difficult to get to like and know each database for its own capabilities," Kline said.
Bravo Kevin!

Till next week, Tim
