ANTIVIRUS VENDORS TO ADD SPAM-FIGHTING CAPABILITIES | InformationWeek If Meta Group is correct, then anti-spam features could become a common component of leading antivirus software suites by the end of next year. The research firm says businesses should keep an eye on industry developments, as several antivirus vendors are likely to offer comprehensive anti-spam software through acquisition or integration. COURT UPHOLDS JUNK FAX BAN, SPAM NEXT? | InfoWorld Anti-spam crusaders plan to use an appeals court ruling against unsolicited faxes last week to push harder for a U.S. federal law against unsolicited e-mail. In the ruling Friday, the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a 1991 federal law against "junk" faxes, saying the law did not violate the fax-senders' right to free speech under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Some new research from a British e-mail management firm shows that more than half of messages sent from the company computer on the company's time are purely personal. In fact, at one government workplace, 70% of the electronic missives were for pleasure, not business. Maybe 70% of the e-mails those public servants sent from home were business-related -- in which case, there's some lovely oceanfront property in Oklahoma for sale.
