This month's updates feature a Domino e-mail storage utilization tool from Accellion, a Notes content management offering from Hummingbird and DYS looks to streamline Domino application performance.

Accellion promises to cut e-mail storage needs

E-mail attachment-offload and management specialist Accellion Inc. has released OneCopy, attachment management software that it claims can reduce mailbox storage utilization by 80%.

According to the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company, the product consolidates e-mail attachments from the messaging server and retains a single copy without client software, immediately reducing the load demand posed by attachments on e-mail servers and increasing available storage. OneCopy is designed to integrate with file servers, network drives, network area storage or storage area networks.

Accellion OneCopy is immediately available for IBM Lotus Domino 5.X and 6.X by annual subscription. A 50-user license is priced at $995, with additional 50 user incremental package for $495.

Hummingbird offers enhanced Lotus Notes integration

Toronto-based Hummingbird Ltd., a provider of integrated enterprise content management (ECM) solutions, has announced that Hummingbird Enterprise will provide out-of-the-box integration with Lotus Notes for advanced e-mail and business content management.

The new Hummingbird Enterprise Lotus Notes Integration Module is intended to allow organizations to: manage all critical business content and correspondence in a simple way from within the Lotus Notes interface; declare Notes content as records; automatically profile correspondence in the Hummingbird Enterprise repository with a drag-and-drop; attach documents or references to documents within the Hummingbird Enterprise repository to an e-mail message; and achieve productivity gains as users work with all business content from within the Lotus Notes environment.

The Hummingbird Enterprise Lotus Notes Integration Module is expected to be available in Q1 2005.

DYS Analytics aims to streamline Domino application usage

DYS Analytics Inc., a Copenhagen, Denmark-based company, recently announced CONTROL! Usage Investigator (CUI), a new addition to its DYS CONTROL! family of application performance management products for collaboration environments. CUI aims to help IT staff align IBM Lotus Domino application databases and user accounts with Domino database usage metrics and analysis that cannot be obtained through platform tools or utilities created in-house.

The new product captures transactional data for each database, user ID and server, providing vital information and workflow processes to help companies save on storage and replication costs, reduce security risks and improve service levels to best maintain peak Domino performance at the lowest possible total cost of ownership.

CUI will be available December 2004.

A 'one step' migration for Lotus apps

Quality On-Line, a San Diego-based enterprise application development firm, has launched a new initiative to help companies migrate from what it calls "proprietary Lotus Notes mechanisms."

The vendor has constructed an application architecture based on J2EE that, according to the company, enables enterprises to replace their Notes and Domino applications while avoiding "a multi-step, multi-year initiative, such as IBM Workplace." Other features of the platform include a structured programming environment to improve consistency between different applications, an integrated workflow and process control engine, LDAP and Active Directory support and reusable code. The vendor says companies such as Royal Dutch Telecom and Syngenta have already migrated their Lotus Notes applications to the Quality On-Line architecture.

Extended Systems and Laplink sync up to improve PDA synchronization

Extended Systems, based in Boise, Idaho, is working with Laplink Software of Kirkland, Wash., to bring enhanced mobile device synchronization to consumers.

Laplink's PDAsync 3.0 provides one-click synchronization of contacts, calendar, tasks, e-mail and notes between Palm, Pocket PC and Sony Ericsson mobile devices and popular desktop applications, such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook. On the market now, version 3.0 uses technology from Extended Systems' award-winning XTNDConnect PC software, and offers features such as scheduled synchronization capabilities, e-mail filtering and an improved user interface.

Eden launches WebSphere management suite

Eden Corp. has released IT PowerPAC WS, a new suite of IT service management products designed for the IBM Websphere Application Server.

The offering from the Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based company is built on Java and delivers applications for service desk and incident reporting, problem management, configuration management, change management, knowledge management, service level agreement monitoring and compliance, and several analytical and statistical reporting tools.

The suite adheres to the best practices for service management established in the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), and is intended to help streamline the workflow management process by integrating tasks. IT PowerPAC WS is J2EE 1.2-1.3-compliant, and supports WebSphere Application Server version 3.5, 4.0 and 5.0, plus DB2. 7.2 and above.
