This feature allows for the automatic fail-over of NICs and spreads outgoing connections over various NICs. To configure this extension it is necessary to add some additional parameters in /etc/hostname [interface identifier]. Once configured the in.mpathd pools the private addresses assigned to these cards to ascertain their availability and will migrate connections to other NICs in the physical interface group until the NIC becomes available again or is replaced. This technology cannot be used on interfaces that are being managed with alternate pathing but is useful in protecting yourself against the following problems: 1) NIC failure 2) Cable failure 3) Switch port failure As a bonus, the technology also overcomes the age-old problem when using round robin DNS records where only the first interface installed in a machine was used for return traffic. This was due to the fact that when packets where sent out form the machine they would use the first entry they found in the routing table which would usually be the first physically installed interface. The book reviews the basic concepts of a business application and the way CICS meets these requirements. It then covers a wide range of application development technologies, including VisualAge for Java, WebSphere Studio, and Visual Basic. Users learn not only how to design and write their programs but also how to deploy their applications. http://www.digitalguru.com/dgstore/product.asp?isbn=1565926765&ac_id=68 ======================================== If you no longer wish to receive this newsletter simply reply to this message with "REMOVE" in the subject line.
