[1] "Fujitsu heats up competition with new server"
Look out Sun - here comes Fujitsu! The company will take on Sun and
IBM with a new server - to be unveiled next week. Fujitsu Technology
Solutions' PrimePower 2000 server will target big corporate
customers. FTS' PrimePower line of servers uses Solaris and runs on
SPARC-compatible processors. FTS uses its own 64-bit SPARC 64-GP
chips running up to 563MHz on the new server.

[2] "Does .Net equal Web services or not?"
When it comes to Web services, .Net appears to be ahead of SunONE, at
least in terms of name recognition. A CEO said during a recent Sun
show with about 200 attendees, he asked how many people knew what Sun
ONE is. "Only six people raised their hands. I asked how many people
knew what .Net was, and nearly the whole room raised their hand." A
Gartner analyst says Redmond also has an advantage when it comes to
delivering tools that make it easy to create Web services.

[3] "Worms will become dynamic, smarter"
A man who knows his worms says Internet worms aren't going away
anytime soon. In fact, they will evolve and become more sophisticated
and subtle - and harder to spot. One day, keeping your antivirus
software current and your system patched won't be enough. Have a nice
day, everybody!

[4] "Gartner: Vacationers addicted to e-mail"
As much as we all like to get away, apparently we don't like to get
TOO far away. Gartner researchers found nearly half of those people
surveyed check their office e-mail while on vacation and 23% check
their inboxes on weekends. And there's a lot to check: Gartner found
business users receive an average of 22 e-mails per day.

"The coming age of optical wireless"
Though optical broadband wireless is a technology sometimes
associated more with hype than delivery, this article argues in favor
of its future all the same. Current shortcomings like sensitivity to
fog and rain are problematic, but not insurmountable, and in areas
associated with unusually clement weather, not significant. (May
2001)

A look at an off-the-wall story from the Web...

"Tech words redefine Oxford dictionary"
Word to your lexicon! More words whelped from the womb of technology
have penetrated the pages of the "Concise Oxford Dictionary." The
latest version not only includes "MP3," "e-book," and "digital
divide," it even defines those text abbreviations you're forced to
use to save space on a tiny screen. "RUOK," "OIC," "KWIM" (know what
I mean?) and "BCNU" are all collected and defined in an appendix,
along with a stash of emoticons. :)
