LEAD STORY

FIX IS IN FOR OPENSSH FLAW | eWEEK

The OpenBSD Project has patched a vulnerability in OpenSSH versions
2.9.9 through 3.3 that could escalate an outsider's privileges on a
system running the flawed Secure Shell protocols. OpenSSH is
frequently used in place of telnet, rlogin and ftp access and comes
bundled with OpenBSD and many other Unix operating systems, including
Solaris 9.

SUN SWITCHES GEARS ON SECURITY | CNET
Sun has changed its mind and decided to back WS-Security, a new
encryption technology that keeps data passed between companies
confidential. Sun had been working on its own Web services security
specification, but couldn't resist WS-Security's royalty-free
licensing. Two of Sun's least favorite firms helped develop the spec:
Microsoft and IBM.

SUN, BEA, OTHERS PUBLISH NEW WEB SERVICES SPEC | CRN
Sun's ONE of several firms, including BEA, Intalio and SAP, that have
unveiled a new XML-based specification to ease Web services
interoperability. The spec is called the "Web Service Choreography
Interface" (WSCI), and it provides an interface that describes the
flow of messages of a Web service.

WEBSPHERE CHIEF: WEB SERVICES MOVEMENT JUST BEGINNING
Donald Ferguson, an IBM chief architect and inventor of the WebSphere
platform, said at Web Services Edge 2002 that the Web services
movement has only just begun and that it will soon be even more
meaningful than it is today. He also said that WebSphere will not
devour Lotus Domino, and that IT is waging a war against its own
complexity. (SearchWebServices)

SUN PS SEEKS CLOSER TIES TO PARTNERS | CRN
If you think Sun needs to work on its people skills, here's some good
news: Sun Professional Services is polishing up a new "buddy"
program, wherein local practice managers will buddy up with partners.
Practice managers will help partners deal with Sun and Sun
Professional Services and answer any questions. The buddy system is
already going in Sun's Southwest (U.S.) territory.

Solaris Administrator Tip | Yet another look at finding large files

Typically, the interest in large files is restricted to a specific
partition. By default, "find" searches all mounted partitions, so
executing it from the root partition, for example, will report too
much information (listing every file in every partition on every
disk) and can also take a very long time to run. The "find big files"
variation at the end of this document offers the following
advantages...
