SUN AND BEA TO BUNDLE IN BID TO BLACKEN BIG BLUE | Bloomberg News
Sun has agreed to bundle BEA's application server into Solaris 9
beginning next month as the two firms look for ways to blacken Big
Blue. A Giga analyst said that this is a good move and that Sun was
"crazy" to be fighting BEA in the first place.

FLAW IN RAQ SERVERS COULD HAND KEYS TO ATTACKERS | InternetWeek
According to the good folks at CERT, Sun Cobalt RaQ 4 Server
Appliances have security flaws that affect certain users. If your
systems have the Security Hardening Package installed, this means
you. The flaw could let remote attackers run code to take over the
system. Sun has issued a patch for the problem and has posted more
information at
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fsalert/49377.

MICROSOFT: JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE FLAW MORE SERIOUS THAN FIRST BELIEVED
A serious vulnerability in Microsoft's Virtual Machine for Windows
could allow an outsider to remotely control a vulnerable system. A
security expert said that exploiting this flaw does not require a
huge amount of technical sophistication. (SearchSecurity.com)

THE MISSING LINK | E-panhandlers make Net gains

Hang onto your wallet! The indigent, indebted and incredibly
audacious are turning the World Wide Web into the World Wide beg.
Cyberbegging sites now belong to everyone from an aspiring opera
singer to a woman who can't imagine a world where "someone as
talented as me was forced to work." And the clicks in all those
cyberpails are adding up. One woman managed to dig herself out of
$20,000 in credit card debt and parlay her site into a book deal. The
moral of her story? It's amazing what you can net off the Net just by
asking. (Reuters)
