An analyst says the company is coming out with new pricing models for all Sun ONE and Solaris software. The different models will be based on either the number of users, the metered usage of the product, or by the CPU. You will also see some "abridged" versions of Sun ONE software in Solaris. SUN SET TO REFRESH SERVERS, MAKE BLADE BID | ComputerWire Sun could be getting ready to shed some light on its 12-way V1280 UltraSparc-III server and also could be getting ready for its blade server close-up. That's what ComputerWire reads into a Sun invitation for a Feb. 10 announcement that will feature Scott McNealy and two other Sun execs talking about cheaper, easier network computing. EXPERT: SLAMMER COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE | SearchSecurity.com Bug finder David Litchfield discovered the vulnerability in SQL Servers currently being exploited by the Slammer worm and comments that the impact could have been much worse. http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid14_gci876824,00.html SUN: MS COULD MAKE JAVA EXTINCT | The Associated Press There's even more paperwork now in the Microsoft/Sun Java spat. Sun has basically appealed Microsoft's appeal of a judge's ruling that Java needs to ride along with Windows. Sun says Java could become a dead language otherwise --because the market leans toward Microsoft's .NET framework. MS is supposed to ship Sun Java with Windows within 120 days of Feb. 4. MICROSOFT WINS AWARD AT LINUXWORLD | vnunet Believe it or not, the penguin has saluted Microsoft -- and it's not an obscene gesture. Microsoft's Services for Unix 3.0 won an award last week at LinuxWorld for best system integration software. The software supports Solaris, AIX, HP-UX and Red Hat Linux 7.0.
