Because it sounds like people want to shut down mailman, and maybe its web service. IIRC the files are in mbox format not plain text, and are usually read via the mailman web front end. Another advantage is that mailman doesn't have built-in search capability and Google Groups does. (It definitely did not in the past and a brief check doesn't find it now.. Yes, one can find / write a script and tweak the mailman archive web page to add a search box.) If it's ok to leave the mailman web service running, and if people don't mind using web search to find info in the archives, and don't mind looking in two places for info, or don't care about finding old info, then please feel free to ignore the suggestion. Meetup is good for events. It is not so good as a mailing list or forum -- the posts are batched oddly (multiple groups together), it's hard to reply via email, and it's hard to follow threads. There are also post length limits in places. -- Pat
