This question has 2 main components:

1) How is it possible to determine the architecture that a particular binary
was compiled under? (i388, i686 etc)

1a) What would I need to do to automagically install the SRPM's for all
binaries installed?

2) If I have all of the SRPMs installed (for all of the binaries installed)
is it possible to recompile everything that is currently installed to match
the optimum system architecture?

3) Depending on the above am I likely to gain much performance if I'm
running a stock redhat system on a PIII 1GHz?

Please feel free to tell me that everything is already optimised and I no
longer need to worry about it ;o)
