I've had lotsa problems with the tulip driver in 2.4.x kernels, ever
since 2.4.3 (except for the 2.4.6 kernel I just got from rawhide). Try
service network stop
rmmod tulip
insmod tulip
service network start
If that works, there're 2 ways you can deal with it:
A. Add those lines to rc.local. I have them there permanently, comment
them out on upgrade and uncomment them if the upgrade didn't fix
anything.
B. Remove the board, make sure kudzu is running and let it remove the
config. Then shut down, reinsert the board, boot and let kudzu add it
back in. I've used this a few times. Just got tired of doing it. This
worked on every kenerl EXCEPT 2.4.3 for me. I didn't try it on 2.4.5,
just relied on the rc.local trick. This also assumes you have a board
that kudzu can autodetect. Some aren't.
I upgraded to 2.4.6, commented out the rc.local lines and, viola! It
worked first try! It required several other things to be upgraded, but
I've had no problem with it since yesterday (too early to give a final
judgement on).
